  16.     This week's Report covers the time period from midnight Thursday
  17.     morning, April 27, Pacific Daylight Time, to midnight 
  18.     Wednesday night, May 3, 1995, Pacific Daylight Time.  We 
  19.     recorded 273 earthquakes of M1.0 or larger during the 7-day 
  20.     period covered.
  21.         The largest, and most widely felt, quake this wee was
  22.     part of a small cluster in the Inglewood area yesterday
  23.     (Wednesday) afternoon.  This sequence included a M3.1 in the 
  24.     early afternoon and a M2.8 at the same location at 5 pm.  Both
  25.     occurred near the comlicated Newport-Inglewood Fault zone, and 
  26.     both showed strike-slip mechanisms consistent with that zone's 
  27.     north-northwesterly strike.  Both of them were felt, the M3.1 
  28.     as far away as downtown L.A.
  29.         As the map shows, there were a number of other very small
  30.     quakes in Los Angeles County.  The only other one to be felt,
  31.     however, was a M2.3 in the Long Beach area last Thursday evening,
  32.     which was felt by a Seismo Lab staff member.
  33.         The table lists the quakes this week that were M2.0 or 
  34.     larger in the central part of the coverage area.  Times are local 
  35.     times; if you want Greenwich Mean Time, add 7 hrs to the Pacific 
  36.     Daylight Time or 8 hrs to the Pacific Standard Time listed.
